We have one workshop in April & new workshops coming up in May in Northampton, Rawtenstall and Newcastle
Moving Into Stillness - Gentle Somatic Yoga & Yoga Nidra - Otley Saturday April 22nd, 1.00-4.00pm This workshop introduces you to Gentle Somatic Yoga movements and guides the body to a calm centred peaceful state from which you will then enter into a deeply refreshing Yoga Nidra - The Meditative Heart of Yoga.
Gentle Somatic Yoga® is an innovative blend of Hatha Yoga, Hanna Somatic Education, Pranayama and focused meditations. It is an approach to Yoga that incorporates slow, mindful, movements that on a physical level heal long held patterns of tension, and/or injuries, and enable the development of greater, freer, easier and more enjoyable movement. In a Gentle Somatic Yoga® class you will be introduced to a variety of movement sequences called Somatic Movement Flows which enable you to bring to the surface and erase long-held patterns of muscular tension that may have been inhibiting your abilities to enjoy and express yourself fully in the here and now. Using these slow and mindful patterns of movement, you will learn ways to change your own movement choices from the inside-out.
Yoga Nidra (the sleep that is yoga) is a deeply nourishing and ancient practice that is also know as the Meditative Heart of Yoga. In Yoga Nidra the physical body comes to rest very deeply supported by pillows and blankets to be as comfortable as possible while the mind remains in a liminal state between sleeping and waking to be guided through relaxation , rotation of consciousness and visualisation. This leads to a state of pure awareness that arises effortlessly and can be deeply transformational and life affirming. In this in between liminal space we can become conscious of what was previously invisible, like coming home to one's true nature. Yoga Nidra helps to reduce stress, calm the nervous system and promote better sleep. It can engender a sense of joy, creativity, wholeness, interconnectedness, tranquillity and well being in the practitioner.

An Introduction to Hanna Somatics - Newcastle Saturday 20th May 10.00-17.00 at 214a Rothbury Terrace Newcastle upon Tyne, NE6 5DE
Hanna Somatic Education, also known as Hanna Somatics, is a rapidly effective form of neuromuscular (mind-body) movement re-education that goes directly to the root cause of most chronic muscular pain and muscular restriction: the brain and the way in which it senses and organises the muscles and movement. Our bodies regularly respond to stress with natural (automatic) reflex patterns. If we get stuck in these patterns our bodies can develop pain and dysfunction (Sensory Motor Amnesia - SMA). With Hanna Somatics you use your brain to "reprogram" your muscles so they can relax to their natural resting length (using a process we call - pandiculation). As you reduce the sensory-motor amnesia in the system, your brain also regains better sensation and control of your muscles, so you can move with more ease and grace, fluidly, and ultimately pain free.
Throughout the day you will be introduced to the original 8 movement patterns presented by Thomas Hanna in his book Somatics - Reawakening the Mind's Control of Movement, Flexibility & Health. These have become more commonly known as the Myth of Ageing series. If practised over time these movements have the potential to give you the ability to sense for yourself if there is an area of tightness and to deal with it before it leads to pain and further restriction. This is an empowering process giving you the knowledge to maintain your own physical wellbeing on a neuromuscular level. In this workshop, you will be invited to develop a new awareness and therefore a new ability for understanding and controlling your own living body. Learn how to: - release the muscles of the back of your body - release the muscles of the front of your body - release and lengthen your waist muscles - increase the mobility involved rotating your torso - increase the mobility of your hip muscles - reduce neck and shoulder muscle tension - expand your breathing - then, finally, put it all together for freer walking The only requirement for attending the workshop is the ability to get down & up from the ground and to be able to lie on your front, back and sides for a short period of time.
Cost for the day £75. Bookings through the YT schedule HERE and will be open from 1 month before the event commences, please contact HERE if you would like to have a place secured for you.
Freeing The Whole Body - Centre to Periphery - Rawtenstall, Lancashire Saturday 27th May 1-4pm
This is the first in a series of three workshops by us at ENERGYBODi Studio in Rawtenstall, Lancashire.
Somatic education tells us that the most effective way to open the body is from the waist out. The contractions at the waist set up compensations all the way out. There are two major reflexes that compress the trunk. One is a fear response - Red Light Reflex that runs down the front of the body. The other is the get up and get going response - Green Light Reflex which is held in the back. Every time we make ourselves do something we don't want to do, these reflexes get activated. All this happens outside of our awareness. Over time one or the other, or both reflexes impose contraction on the body. This can actually shorten the waist as well as compress major organs and prevent good breathing and blood flow. This workshop will address
Abdominal Muscles Back Muscles Shoulder Joint and Hip Joint Shoulder Girdle and Hip Girdle Trunk, Arms and Hand, Legs Side Leg, Ankle, and Foot
Starting with the Abdominal and Back Muscles we'll gradually expand out from the core, through the hips and shoulders into the extremities - the hands and feet.
This workshop is appropriate for all, regardless of general physical ability. The only requirement for attending is the ability to get down and up from the ground and to be able to lie on your front, back and/or sides for a period of time. The workshop will be of benefit to anyone experiencing muscular aches and pains, and accompanying restricted and inhibited movement, who would like to learn new ways to diminish and eliminate pain and expand and enhance their quality and range of movement gently and easily.
